# DOLLY THE CAT

### Lady Jane is 100 years old. She had two cats, Dolly and Molly. Dolly was 17 years old and suffered from rheumatism to the extent that she could hardly walk. Lady Jane decided it was time to put Dolly out of her misery. She went to the vet with the cat and it was gently put down. When Lady Jane returned to her house, she was treated to a warm welcome from both Dolly and Molly. How could this be?

**Answer**

Lady Jane was almost blind. The cat she took to the vet was a stray that had had the misfortune to enter Lady Jane's kitchen at the moment when she looked at the cat she thought was Dolly, picked it up, and took it to its fate at the vet.

# TWO MEN IN A BOAT

### Two intrepid sailors had visited the mighty oceans of the world. During their travels, they had crossed the oceans far and wide. At one time, thet found themselves sitting on opposite sides of the ship. One was looking west and the other one east, and yet, they could see each other clearly. How can that be possible?

### A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors.

Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters.

Through the second door there is a firebreathing dragon. How does the man escape?

# THREE BROTHERS IN THEIR PRIME

### Tom, Sam and Bob are three brothers. Interestingly their current age is prime. What's more interesting that difference between their ages is also prime. How old are they?

The age differences are 7-2=5 (a prime number). 7-5=2 (a prime number). 5-2=3 (a prime number).

# LILIES EVERYWHERE

### In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire
lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half the lake?

The patch doubles in size
every day and so on the 47th day the patch will be half the size it is on the 48th day.

# TICKET DILEMMA

### If you go to the movies and you're paying, is it cheaper to take one friend to the movies twice, or two friends to the movies at the
same time?

**Answer**

It's cheaper to take two friends at the same time. In this case, you would only be buying three tickets, whereas if you take the same friend twice you are buying four tickets.

### Four daughters and three sons. Each daughter has 3 sisters and 3 brothers, and each brother has 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

# COLOURED BALLS

### There are 25 red balls, 47 green balls and 3 blue balls in a basket. There is a blind man. What is the minimum number of balls that the blind man has to pick to make sure that there are at least 2 balls of different colors?
